Browsing for books
A holiday's ideal for bookworming and, sometimes, reading about your destination really enhances the trip. For those of us who can't afford a holiday or are fresh out of leave, brilliant travel writing can be the next best thing. And what about bookshops? Finding a dusty, secondhand emporium or trendy gallery shop can make your day. We know Been there users are a learned lot so tell us about your favourite travel writing or bookshops, wherever they are. Send a tip about your favourite travel book, or favourite bookshop, to Been there by Monday July 14, and the tip we like best will bag a copy of Time Out's 2008 New York city guide, complete with detailed maps, independent reviews and the inside track on local culture.

It’s sexist, anti-religious and at times stilted but no other book captures Greek hedonism quite like this one. Alexis Zorbas (so memorably portrayed by Anthony Quinn in the film) is the man everyone wants – and perhaps needs – to meet in a lifetime.

    Eleftheroudakis book store

Posted by AthenianGirl 22 March 2006

Tired of those endless hours of sunbathing? If you are in the mood for reading and have run out of books look for something that suits your taste in the multi-storied Eleftheroudakis book store. English literature is on the mezzanine, most popular titles are displayed on the ground floor. And if you feel like leafing through glossy magazines without paying a cent you may do so in their wonderful sixth floor cafe over big cups of coffee and fresh croissants.

    Istor bookshop

It's a small bookshop with second-hand books. You can find many books in English and in French here, in very good condition. It's very nice to see anyway.
