Old Windmills-2

The island has beautiful beaches, some of which rarely have more than a dozen visitors at their busiest.

It is blessed with friendly people and an important monastery close to the cave where St John is said to have written the Apocalypse.

These features are all enhanced by this Dodecanese island not having an airport and access being by sea. The only times when there are crowds are for a few hours on days when cruise liners call to take advantage of the port's deep waters and tourists make a bee line for the monastery.

Patmos has an easy-going atmosphere, a balmy climate and a special feel that gives it a character of its own.
