Possibly the most beautiful of the Dodecanese Islands, Symi is small, unspoilt, has no airport and once visited will not be forgotten.
As you must arrive by boat (either speed or two-hour ferry from Rhodes) you will experience the staggeringly beautiful harbour and town and see why so many artists are inspired to live there. Do not think "day-trip" as time is needed to feel and see all that is on offer; clean jade seas, unique beaches, gentle or mountainous walks, boats and barbecues, the best of Greek cuisine - especially in my view, the small family-run tavernas. Accommodation from simple studios to luxurious villas, heavenly views from every spot on the island, music, arts, theatre and simple or, if you prefer, luxury accommodation.
You must experience both the town and old village and as many beaches as you can manage in order to sample superb food and drink. Steeped in ancient and modern history, you will not be disappointed when you visit either a tiny church or a magnificent monastry. Those with questions will always find a helpful local willing to tell you about the history and culture of their treasured home. The friendliest of welcomes awaits you here.
Do it yourself, just fly to Rhodes and sail across. Kosmar, Olympic, Laskarina do packages. Also visit
