Posted by keti 10 July 2007

The Temple of Olympian Zeus is one of the landmarks of Athens like Acropolis and Parthenon. Its construction began during the 6th century BC and finished in the 2nd century AD by the Roman Emperor Hadrian. The temple of Zeus is situated next to Zappeion at the junction of Vasilissis Amalias and Vasilissis Olgas Avenues, the main entrance is at Vasilissis Olgas Avenue 1. On the same field you can visit Hadrian's Arch.

Posted by janet23 30 June 2007

If you stay a few more days on Spetses you can visit on a day trip the resorts of Ermioni, Porto Heli and the historic town of Nafplion with the Venetian castle of Palamidi on the Peloponnese.

There are boats from Spetses going there daily.

It's hard to find a list of cheap accommodation in Heraklion, Crete.

I usually stay at Rent Rooms Hellas, a quiet hostel within walking distance of the port.

There is a small bar on the roof where you can get a beer or glass of wine and talk to other travellers.

The hostel is quiet and cheap.

Plaka

Posted by dim77 14 June 2007

Plaka is one of the most popular spots in Athens. Since Melina Mercury cleaned up the area from the noisy bars and night clubs, today Plaka is a quiet small Greek village inside the overcrowded Athens center.

Best time to enjoy Plaka is early spring and late October when the tourist wave has gone. There are many places and museums to visit in Plaka among them the museums of Greek folk art, the Children's Museum, the Frissiras Museum of Greek painting and the Greek music instruments museum. In Plaka you can see also the Roman bath of the Winds and the Lysicrates monument, next to it was the Capuchin Monastery where Lord Byron stayed. Across the Adrianou street and on the steps of Plaka you will find many shops, cafes and restaurants.

There are a lot of traditional religious feasts and festivals on the island of Karpathos in the summer. Don't miss the festival of Kyra Panagia on August 23 at the church of this small village, another one is held in Vroukounda village at the church of St.John on August 27.

Some of the best beaches of Greece are on the island of Corfu. Beaches like Paleokastritsa, Sidari, Gouvia and Glyfada. But there are many other hidden beaches in Corfu ideal for a day trip with a boat like Peroulades beach.

Youth Hostel Plakias

Posted by nomad28 5 June 2007

When I was in Rethymno, Crete in 2001 I was told about a hostel in a village called Plakias that I should go visit. I went down to Plakias and ended up staying for weeks, and returned several times over the next few years. There is great snorkeling and hiking within walking distance of the hostel. This is one of the best hostels I've been to in many years of travelling.

Limnos island

Posted by dim77 3 June 2007

Limnos, or Lemnos, belongs to the north Aegean islands and is a bit of a neglected Greek island and consequently not in the list of budget package holidays.

The capital is Myrina and is worth visiting if you are planing a tour to the north Aegean islands like Chios, Lesbos, Thassos and Samothraki

Leros sailing

Posted by apostolis 31 May 2007

If you own or charter a yacht sail to Leros, Leros has the most natural port in the east Mediterranean - the port of Lakki, there are 2 marinas there and there is another marina in Partheni. Panteli and Vromolithos are ideal for anchorage. If you stay a couple of days on Leros a good idea is to rent a bike or a car and make a tour around the island, there is a lot to see and to do like watersports, diving, windsurfing and fishing. Leros is an ideal island for holidays.

Leros nightlife

Posted by sorel 22 May 2007

Though Leros is an island for people that want relaxing holidays it has a vivant nightlife. There are many bars, cafes and pubs. Agia Marina is the centre of the Lerian nightlife where all the local teens go. In Alinda and Lakki as well there are many cafeterias that stay open late. At Panteli you will find the Cafeteria Kastelo with amazing views and the Savana bar owned by Peter from England.

There are so many coves and hidden beaches in Leros that you can swim in private. A nudist beach in in Kryfos on the north side of Alinda bay. In Partheni you can walk further from Blefuti bay, another is at Lakki at the place "Kokina" in the area of Kokali in Gurna and Agios Isidoros. If you want public beaches, try Panteli or Vromolithos beach.

The Monastery of Panormitis

Posted by bob22 19 May 2007

The Monastery of Panormitis is well known to all islanders of the Dodecanese. It is a good idea for a day trip there if you stay in Symi town or from Rhodes with excursion boat. The monastery is one of the many places of interest that the small beautiful island of Symi has, like ancient ruins, the castles of the Byzantines the Knights of St John.

Most people that go to Alonisos just want a chilled relaxing holiday and these apartments are perfect. They are tucked away on a hillside and the hosts Michael and Vivienne will really take care of you. The scenery around here is just stunning.
