This is how left luggage offices are indicated on railway stations in south India. If you have time between trains or need a cheap and secure place to leave your bags after checking out of your accommodation look for the 'Cloakroom'.

The whole south coast of Goa is a string of spectacular beaches and lovely towns, such as Udupi on the Karnataka coast. Inland is the historical site Hampi (railway station at Hospet). The main transport hub for south Goa is Margao (also known as Marmagao) which is called Madgoan by the railway.

Take a train to Hampi or Madgoan but be aware that most trains leave early in the morning (e.g. to Hospet - Hampi at 7 am) so it’s good to stay somewhere close to the station. We found the best place was Kovolam Beach which has lots of guesthouses and restaurants and a nice beach, and it’s cheap.

Some advice: Don't catch the state bus from Goa to Hampi - it's 10 hours of sheer hell.

As with other states, the Goan state government runs cheap one-day sight seeing trips for about US$1.00. Well worth the time.
Take a bus trip to north Goa or south Goa. Again, less than one dollar. Since public buses are crowded, go to a terminal and get a seat next to a window, so that one does not have to be put off by crowded passengers shoving.

Escape from your fellow British two weekers.
Usurp those tranced-out-hippie-travellaaahhs.
Swap all this for a life (or at least a day) on the open road.
Rent a motorbike and off you go.
An opportunity to see the other Goa; unspoilt inland villages, white washed Portuguese churches, tucked away coastal communities. The India that exists just a few kilometers away from your hotel. And all this can be yours for less than the price of a one day travelcard on the tube!
Warning. The roads in India can be insane. With holy cows and random rickshaws as your fellow traffic, insurance is a good idea. But half the fun is the virtually insanity, methinks. And at least they drive on the same side of the road as the UK.

You can find sooters, motorbikes etc all over Goa. Ask at your hotel or around town. Prices range from 150rs per day for a Honda Kinetic scooter, to 600rs for a 500cc Royal Enfield Bullet
