Jerusalem is the political, capital city of Israel and is the focal point for all three of the world's major monotheistic faiths.

For Jews it is the historical centre of the religion, where both temples were built (the Western Wall being one of the outer walls of the second temple) and where - it is believed - any third temple that might one day exist will be.

For Christians, it is the place where Christ was crucified and you can still walk the Via De La Rosa today.

For Muslims, it is the place from which Mohammed ascended to heaven (you can visit the rock from which he made his ascent in the centre of the old City, in the Dome of the Rock).

Jerusalem is a place with a palpable sense of history and it is also the centre of modern Israeli life.
