A town of two halves

Bergamo lies fifty kilometres east of Milan. There is a Bergamo Alta, the medieval hilltop old town and Bergamo Basso, the lower new town mainly built in Neo Classical style. The walled old town is very beautiful and well preserved with wonderful views up to the mountains and over the surrounding plains.
