We just came back from Rome, where we and other expats rented apartments from an agency called Roman Homes. We were reluctant at first, as we never used vacation rentals in Europe yet we had a great time.

We booked two downtown apartments which were absolutely tidy, and exactly as shown on their website. The guys of Roman Homes were friendly and gave us detailed information at every stage. I would recommend this company to everyone.

We just came back from Rome where we booked an apartment with Rome City Apartments. I'd like to let everybody know this has been for us (we were two family groups) a very positive experience.

We have rented the apartments Helios2 and Mirkos which are located in the same building in Via della Stelletta; one (the Mirkos) is on the first floor and another one (the Helios2) on the second floor. The apartments were pretty new and designed/furnished in a modern/stylish way, and this is quite surprising as they are located in the very centre of Rome where everything is so old and full of history. But at the same time it was really pleasant to stay in those apartments where, honestly, we could see that the owners had put so much attention to details.

We were quite worried to rent apartments as we had always stayed in hotels before but as we have one child of four and the couple we travelled with have two children aged two and four it was a necessity as four hotel rooms would have been out of our budget or, alternatively, in two hotel rooms (one for each family) it would have felt like in the metro during the peak hour. But finally everything went smoothly.

It was a great vacation for us (except for the weather as it has been raining nearly all the time) and, after buying good umbrellas, we have been able to enjoy all the beauties of the city . Also the food is fantastic and we recommend the Quinzi and Gabrielli restaurant that is located in Piazza delle Coppelle, a few metres away from the apartment, where we had a great dinner, although a bit expensive.

In fact, if you are with your family or a group, an apartment might be cheaper than a hotel, but also very central and beautiful.

For example, Domus Colosseo is a big apartment at Coliseum, with a 360° view over Rome from its terraces. It is generally quiet at night, except for the hostelry and pizzeria close to the hotel. Very nice employees, helpful and smiling. Only problem we had was with the elevator... there wasn't an elevator!!! Within walking distance of Stazione Termini. I would definitely stay there again.

I was impressed by Colors Hotel. The staff was helpful in many occasions during our stay. I've sent many emails to have the best deal possible, and I was not surprised to hear the best proposals from the smallest agencies. I finally booked Domizio apt in Piaza Navona. I was surprised by the stylish furniture, and the owner was very friendly.

Everything was very familiar - something I did really appreciate.
My sister who's been in Rome for a year has not been as satisfied with another agency: the photos were much better than reality.

I think Romeloft was really OK: the website is decent, they were quite fast answering emails, but the point is... the apartment was better than I expected.

Can't wait to come back to Rome! I only found out later, when the taxi didn't turn up for the return journey and I had to hail a cab from one of the main streets, that the official charge is 30 Euros to the inner city. You can also get a bus for eight Euros to termini.

By the way, even though the apartment was good, I wouldn't recommend feelhomeinrome.com as they apply hidden charges for cleaning the apartment and work with a dodgy taxi company that is charging more than double the official fare.
