    Happy hour at Bacaro Jazz

Posted by Sissi 30 May 2008

A haven of a bar near the Rialto in Venice! Happy hour between 5 and 7.30pm makes the delicious cocktails very affordable.

This was actually recommended to me by another traveler and the fact that I'm passing on the tip says it all!

There may be tourists here but they are mostly backpackers and young people, giving the bar a fun international flavor.

The owners are super-friendly too and seem genuinely interested in their visitors, particularly those from elsewhere in Europe so be prepared to engage in some lively conversation!

Un Mondo di Vino Wine House

    Posted by Jo78 14 March 2007

This cosy wine house five minutes from the Rialto serves dozens of wonderful wines by the glass, starting at about 1.5 euros for a glass of prosecco.

Also serves delicious bar food - when it's gone, it's gone. The atmosphere is that of a private party - you can spill out on to the street or eat at little drop-down ledges, built into the walls of the shop.

A great alternative to an expensive and indifferent meal in a tourist restaurant.

    Cafe Florian

Posted by RozB 11 August 2006

Beautiful frescos and ambience. Step back in time. Opened in 1720. If it was good enough for Casanova, Lord Byron, Proust and Rousseau, its good enough for me!

    Harry's Bar

Posted by daedelus 16 July 2006

It is said Byron swam the Grand Canal in Venice, Browning made love in Venice and Hemmingway got drunk in Venice. Probably in Harry’s Bar. Original art deco with waiters and martinis to match the glasses and olives. If you want to arrange to meet someone in Venice do it in style and do it here in Harry’s Bar, but be prepared to pay for it.

And it’s easy to find: just around the corner from the Bridge of Sighs where, according to Byron, prisoners gazed their last on freedom as they crossed the bridge from the Courts of the Doge’s Palace to their cells.

    Pasticceria la Puppa

Posted by andreak 4 April 2006

Tucked away in a back street near the Fondamente Nove is the best pasticceria in Venice, and one of the most mouth-watering window displays I've ever seen. Chestnuts dipped in chocolate, 'budini' (little rice and egg custard cakes), castagnaccio (chestnut cake), all kinds of chocolate sweets, and at reasonable prices. The owner, Roberto Puppa, tries to create the most authentic, traditional Venetian recipes - ask for advice and recipes. And you can get a cup of coffee, too.

    Drinks

Go to any of the top Grand Canal hotels for an early evening cocktail. Alternatively, head for Florian's for a late night brandy, but don't look at the bill - just order another.

    Campo Santa Margherita

Posted by sunstarrr 19 November 2005

One of the hubs of nightlife in Venice. There's some great bars - Cafe Rosso, Duchamp, and the Orange bar on the square itself, and Cafe Noir and Cafe Blu just round the corner, the latter which has great live music. But it's not all about the nightlife, in the daytime Campo Santa Margherita is a lovely place to sit and relax, watch people go by, feed the sparrows, and grab a slice of delicious pizza from Pizza al Volo.

    Le Cafe

Posted by italophile 7 November 2005

A cafe/bar with wonderful snacks and coffee at very reasonable prices - 2 cappucinos and 2 krafens (like doughnuts) at half the price of 2 cappucinos near St Marks. We heard Italians coming out and agreeing that the coffee was excellent - a real complement.

On Campo San Stefano, near Accademia bridge and Vaporetto stop.

    Capannina Beach

Posted by faustomessina 10 May 2006

Capannina Beach, located in the Venice party capital of Jesolo Lido, became the setting of the legendary sunset-aperitivo parties known as "The Better Days". With the magic combination of its house set (influenced by everything from acid to electronica to deep from minimal to techhouse), open air location and spectacular Venetian sunsets, The Better Days has grown to become the most important, unforgettable beach party in all of Venice. Guests of the party often make comparisons to the bliss and ambience found at the famous Circo Loco parties held in Ibiza, or to those of Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos. Unforgettable.
