Latvia
This is a good cheap hotel which provides bed and breakfast. I booked it using its own website. The rooms are large and clean and have fridges. You can borrow a kettle, etc from reception at no charge.
Valdemara Street, Riga. Take the number 22a bus from the airport and get off at the Art Museum, 2 stops after crossing the river. Then at the same stop take the number 8 trolley bus 4 stops. The hotel is across the road. Each fare is 0.4 Lat (about 42p!)
For the chance to be lord or lady of the manor for the day, without needing the finance to go with it, check out Kalnamuiza Manor House in Latvia. The manor house offers a secluded five-star getaway from the big city life of Riga.
Nice apartment, clean and tidy. Paid a deposit of 75 euros and paid rest when we got there no problems... good location near everything in Riga centre. Gloria is very helpful if you have any problems and gave us advice during our stay.
We were on a stag trip to Hotel X-Dream. Billed as a stag hotel. Could not be anything worse. We were ripped off from the minute we landed. We booked an airport pick-up. Did not arrive, no apologies. The rooms were tiny could not even stand up. More like a broom cupboard. We booked the sauna and pool for the afternoon with strip shows. Turned out to be one 5 minute strip with a suspect woman and that was it for £20 each. Booked the bobsleigh trip for £20, bus did not turn up - waited for 4 hours (wasted) and did not get our money back. All 15 of us were so wound up we went and sat in the airport 4 hours early just to get out of the place! No aplogies! In fact the receptionist told us being English we should expect to pay prices like these. Yes but in the UK we get what we pay for!
Artilerijas St, Riga LV-1009
Huge apartments for 6 in Riga, walking distance from everything. Towels, kitchen equipment etc provided then you're left to come and go as you please. Far cheaper and better than a hotel.
Superb hotel in the centre of Riga in an excellent location on the edge of the old town. The hotel is perfectly located for nightlife as most of the liveliest spots are within five minutes walk. The hotel is a little on the expensive side with rooms priced at 100 Lats, but the location more than makes up for it with the freedom monument on the hotel doorstep
Kalku 28
Don't be fooled into thinking that you need to stay in the old town - this modern hotel in the new town is a pleasure dome. The rooms are huge, the beds are vast, the breakfasts are great and it's quiet and worth the price.
