The country that shares its name with its capital. A small but remarkable country that shares borders with Germany, Belgium and France. It is 57kms wide and 82kms long - the third smallest country in Europe. City life, mountain life, wine growing and cheap fuel and alchohol!
Paperhilljo adds:
Look beyond the banking, cheap petrol and alcohol and you will find Luxembourg is a place to stop and spend some time in, rather than just pass through en route to more summery destinations by the Mediterranean.
Twelve years after the city first became a European Capital of Culture, Luxembourg is gearing up to take on the title again. In 2007 it will share this title with the neighbouring regions of Lorraine, Rhineland Palatinate, Saarland and Wallonia and host a varied schedule of cultural events, including contemporary musical performances and art installations.
But even without this event, a visit to Luxembourg will not disappoint. A founding member of the EU, and one Europe’s tiniest states, you will find a lot to discover beneath its quaint surface.
