Cinema in Wanaka

Posted by parjugs 5 September 2007

Although you should mainly go to Lake Wanaka for the stunning lake and the surrounding views, it is also worth visiting the very cool, independent cinema that this tiny town has.

You can kick back and relax on the lovely, beaten up sofas (instead of the uncomfortable chairs normally found in this type of establishment!) There is even an old shell of a car, decked out with cushions, which you can sit in!

Wanaka

Lovely small town about an hour away from Queenstown. You can do all the same activities like bungee jumping, paragliding, etc for half the price.

The town is by the shores of Lake Wanaka and has amazing views

Canyoning

It is a mixture of abseiling, swimming, jumping, climbing out in the wilderness.

Next to the Red Cow on the high street.

Trout fishing as soon as possible

Posted by TimK 2 December 2006

The fantastic trout fishery of New Zealand's South Island is currently collapsing because of the spread of the noxious algae didymo (or rock snot). Already present in 21 known rivers, including such iconic waterways as the Mataura, it is absolutely ruining the unique and precious nature of these places. Get down here asap as they will soon be gone in terms of fishing.
