Like having a cinema in your front room - if your front room had a Morris Minor you could watch the film from. Cinema Paradiso in Wanaka, on New Zealand's South Island is a perfect way to wind down after a day of throwing yourself out of an aeroplane over some of the most stuning scenery you are likely to see. Throw in a load of sofas if you don't get to bag the Morris' retro-comfy seats, gourmet pizzas, beers and humungous home made cookies at the interval and you have the best cinema experience you could wish for.

Although you should mainly go to Lake Wanaka for the stunning lake and the surrounding views, it is also worth visiting the very cool, independent cinema that this tiny town has.
You can kick back and relax on the lovely, beaten up sofas (instead of the uncomfortable chairs normally found in this type of establishment!) There is even an old shell of a car, decked out with cushions, which you can sit in!
Lovely small town about an hour away from Queenstown. You can do all the same activities like bungee jumping, paragliding, etc for half the price.
The town is by the shores of Lake Wanaka and has amazing views
It is a mixture of abseiling, swimming, jumping, climbing out in the wilderness.
Next to the Red Cow on the high street.
The fantastic trout fishery of New Zealand's South Island is currently collapsing because of the spread of the noxious algae didymo (or rock snot). Already present in 21 known rivers, including such iconic waterways as the Mataura, it is absolutely ruining the unique and precious nature of these places. Get down here asap as they will soon be gone in terms of fishing.
Really great food and the best milkshakes in New Zealand.
The wine bar upstairs is the best place in Wanaka for a few glasses of good wine, chat and relaxation.
Perfect location overlooking lake Wanaka. Friendly helpful staff, clean and very comfortable. Films shown nightly in the large sitting room.
