One time capital of Norway it is now the country’s third-largest city, though it hardly feels like one with a population of around 160,000. On the coast of the Norwegian sea, Trondheim is now largely a modern city though it has an important medieval history.
It’s said that every sixth inhabitant is a student – it’s the home of the University of Science and Technology which has an international reputation. It is also home to Scandinavia’s largest medieval building, Nidaros Cathedral, Scandinavia’s oldest secular building, the archbishop’s palace, and Scandinavia’s largest wooden palace, the Stiftsgården, which is an official royal residence.
