Peru
If you haven't got time for the Huayhuash circuit, this is a great trek with spectacular scenery. We went with Huascaran Adventure Travel - great guide and much better food and kit than some rival operators. We booked through the Albergue Churup in Huaraz, which was a good place to stay.
The Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra are the best area to explore. Why? Because of the immense biodiversity that they contain. The geological features and the abundant flora and fauna allow you to understand the natural richness of this amazing region full of mountains. It is also very cheap and is worth a visit!
It is 8 hours from Lima. I recommend Cruz del Sur or Ormeño buses.
