This forest is great for walks but even better for biking. The tourist office in Krakow can provide clear maps showing the cycle routes from the city centre to the forest. Bikes can be hired from numerous places (listed below, or ask the tourist office).

The Wolski Forest is set in the glorious hills which lie to the west of Krakow.

On the site of the old city walls, this park defines the boundaries of the pear-shaped Old Town. In spring and summer it’s a pleasant place to sit and relax, but it has a reputation for being less pleasant after dark.

A memorial built in the 1820s to celebrate the life of Polish national hero Tadeusz Kościuszko (1746-1818) in the form of a circular mound, which you can climb for a view over Kraków and the surrounding countryside. A small but fascinating museum at the base charts the life of Kościuszko. There is also a separate exhibition of wax figures and a hotel.

Bielany Forest is where the Krakovians go to escape from the hustle and bustle of their city. Children can run around there and families can enjoy picnics or walks. It has splendid views of the Wisla (Vistula) river and the Tatra mountains.

Bielany Forest lies to the south-west of Krakow city centre. It is a 25 min walk from there. You can also catch a tram.

This vast park west of the centre is a great place for a stroll or a picnic. It has special significance for Krakovians – the Pope addressed vast crowds here in 1979 and on several occasions later.

The Blonia is within walking distance of the Old Town. From there, go along J. Pilsudskiego and then Al. F. Focha
