Roman holiday

Lodz is Poland's second largest city, but is often overlooked by visitors to the country who go to Warsaw, Gdansk and Krakow. It is also the home of Poland's most well-known film schools where Roman Polanski began his career. Although its outskirts are grubby with decaying buildings, the centre is well worth a visit.
Why not have a beer on one of the patios on one of Europe's longest streets, Piotrkowska Street? Alternatively, check out the old textile mills, which are being converted to one of Europe's largest shopping and entertainment complexes.
