This place is gorgeous and we go every year since we discovered it. It's a really easy and unstressful drive from Faro airport and has a perfect location, perched up on a hill above the small village of Estoi with views down to the sea. Easy acess to all the great fishing villages and good shopping in Faro, as well as amazing wildlife, walks etc.

A sandy island off Faro, in the Ria Formosa Marine Reserve, Farol is remniscent of the Caribbean Keys. White, immaculate sand, shallow emerald waters and very few people around. There's one little bar open in peak season but its offer is very limited. So bring food and drinks. If you have a boat, the setting is perfect: dozens of pretty, desert white sand islands and the clearest sea water possible. If you want you can skinny dip all day.
