    Chilling Out

    Posted by sjw512 5 August 2008

Singapore Botanical Gardens: Singapore is very built up and exciting but this is good for a chill out and escape for a bit if you have the time!

Just outside the city centre - can take a taxi or walk there - if it is a nice day and clouds not too daunting of a thundery shower then the walk is good! Lots of maps show the gardens but are different to many others in the world, are quiet, relaxing and near to some good cafes! Good chill out place in a bustling city!

    Cable car to Sentosa

Posted by tabrascokid 30 September 2006

Take the cable car to Sentosa for unrivalled views both of Sentosa Island and the huge shipping port. It also goes right over the top of the cruise ships that go in, so you can have a good snoop at the rooms!

Catch the cable car from the World Trade Centre.

    Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Posted by overthere 30 September 2006

Largest and last piece of original rainforest left on the island. Walk up the incredibly steep hill (mind the monkeys!) for a fantastic view from the top. Thick forest offers a respite from the high temperatures.

Bukit Timah Road; get the bus toward Malaysia (I think it's the 70 and/or 170), or a taxi.

    Raffles Hotel

Posted by skydiving 30 September 2006

Very well known hotel, very expensive to stay there but a must for anyone on a visit to Singapore is afternoon tea and a Singapore sling in the lobby area of the Raffles Hotel. It's one of those fantastic experiences and a defo must. Dress smartly.

Very local to city, just ask any locals who are very friendly to direct you.

    Orchard Road

Posted by skydiving 30 September 2006

Lovely shopping road during day but really comes to life at nightime. I arrived at one in morning but couldn't resist taking a stroll and was just mesmerised. Street stall atmosphere just out of this world - on my own and very safe even at that time.

    Swissotel - New Asia Bar

Posted by tompercival 8 October 2005

The New Asia is on the 72nd storey of one of the tallest buildings in Singapore. It offers spectacular views of the city centre and the whole of Singapore - you might even see Malaysia on a clear day. Drinks are reasonably priced (for Singapore!) as long as you go before 9pm. Expect to pay around S$7-9 (£2.50)for a beer.

    Aglio Olio

Posted by KIRSTIESDAD 2 October 2006

An excellent noodle restaurant & bar. Lots of different noodles which will suit European palates a little more than the spicier native flavours. Then walk across China square towards the river and look out of the public statuary.

    China Square, Chinatown.

    A Bumboat trip

Posted by KIRSTIESDAD 30 September 2006

Catch the boat for a view of the city from the Singapore River - have a complete round trip or get off and have a walk.

From Boat Quay, after you've eaten at one of the many outdoor eateries - steer clear of the Chilli crab.

    Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Posted by richardmartin 30 September 2006

Wetland - which largely means mangrove swamps. Well laid out walkways take you through a variety of natural habitats. The wildlife, especially the birds, is stunning. Gives two or three hours of peace in the Singapore experience.

On the north-west coast of Singapore.

Like everywhere on the island, it is easy to get to by public transport: the website explains all you need to know.
(Of course, even taking a taxi is not particularly expensive - at least not be European standards.)
