From the terraces
Banska Bystrica is a great town in central Slovakia. It has a vibrant, studenty feel and the town centre is car-free and lined with bars, pubs and restaurants.
When the university term finishes there is a great atmosphere as everyone sits outside on terraces, enjoying the sunshine. The weather gets really hot in summer and it's like being somewhere in the Mediterranean (except without the sea). However, there are the mountains, which are great for cool hikes or skiing in the winter.
