Slovenia
Whether it’s a few days of snow sports or a tranquil weekend getaway in the heart of Slovenia’s most stunning Alpine scenery that you fancy, this typically Slavic mountain lodge is the perfect choice. The eleven rooms and four recently-added apartments come with satellite TV, WiFi Internet and sizeable bathrooms, whilst six rooms boast lake-facing balconies. The top floor rooms, with exposed beams, are most atmospheric. It is, however, the views over Lake Bohinj (framed by Mount Triglav, the country’s highest peak) that steal the show. Gasperin also offers ski packages, as well as bike hire and packed lunches for trips into the forest-carpeted hills nearby. The locally-raised owners also have bundles of information to help plan your stay. There’s a drinks terrace, a cosy lounge stocked with books and board games and a breakfast of fruit, cold meets, eggs and Slovenian ewe’s cheese substantial enough to set an army up for a day in the wilderness. The lakeside, offering boat trips, hiking trails and cafés, is a 250 metre walk away.
