This restaurant specialising in fresh seafood offers a unique experience of dining in style, whilst practically sitting on a beach. The Seafood Platter consists of an impressive variety of locally caught delicacies, served attractively in stunning surroundings.

La Colombeat Constantia Uitsig wine estate is now 50% owned by a black empowerment co-operative. The French style food at La Colombe was of a high standard – 'jalousie de langoustines' anyone? - with excellent service on a garden terrace by the vineyards. There is another restaurant (The Constantia Uitsig) overlooking the vineyards and a more informal restaurant (the River Café) in the courtyard behind the wine shop – noisy when we were there because of ‘the ladies who lunch’.
Blues at Camps Bay. Cool seafood restaurant with terrace and panoramic windows overlooking the beach. Great food in a relaxed environment. Apparently it gets very busy here in season, so booking is recommended.
This is the best view in The Cape. You dine on superb food while the restaurant turns at a leisurely pace giving you a view of the city from on high.
It's 22 storeys up at the top of the Ritz hotel and looks like an alien spaceship has landed on top of the building to the casual observer. Inside it's well decorated with an open kitchen and candles on the tables.
There is nowhere else you can get this standard for so little money (mains from 90 rand). A pianist plays while you dine which, combined with the great food and super service, makes for an unforgettable experience.
You cant miss it. Its that building in Sea Point with the flying saucer on the top. Ritz Hotel Sea Point
Found this wonderful retro-style steakhouse on my first visit. Superb steaks are cooked by owner/chef Jimmy in his open style kitchen.
Smooth jazz plays in the background while you eat. Try the brandy steak and the chilli calamari.
The Buzbey is a Cape treasure. Reasonably priced, booking is advisable at weekends. Gay friendly.

Move over Cirque du Soleil! Head to Madame Zingara, an antique Belgian circus tent, one of only 10 in the world, for a night of incredible fantasty and fun.

Cape Town, and now moving to Johannesburg in August 2007
This must be the best seafood restaurant in the whole world.
The whole lunch experience starts at 12pm when you pitch up on the beach with your own cooler box filled with wine and ice cold beer.
From there, a 12 course seafood meal gets served along with homebaked African bread made in the cast iron ovens on the beach.
All in all this experience will have you playing in the sun and sea while dining in a five-star location with the best meal. You're kindly asked to leave by 6pm but I'm sure if you ask nicely they will let you stay for the dinner session which is from 7pm - 2am.
Very good, very expensive restaurant. I went there for a friend's birthday- the fool ordered the eponymous Beluga caviar with a price on request written next to it - he didn't and was asked for a comedy amount when the bill came. Still the chocolate ostrich was unbelievable.
The very best afternoon tea I've ever had, and I make a point of taking it everywhere I go.
A wonderful selection of teas, and a massive way over the top buffet of cakes and sandwiches and biccies.

Most tourists to the Cape only stick with the tried and tested routes and experiences. !Khwa ttu is one of the very few GENUINE San Bushmen-led initiatives in southern Africa. It's set on stunning hillside overlooking the coast and Table Mountain and here you can meet the San, learn about hunting, gathering, tracking, take a trailer ride, see all of the amazing game and other animals, go on hikes, enjoy the restaurant or stay in their amazinginly peaceful accommodation (cottage or tents). There is a museum, art gallery, training centre, conference facilities and shop too.
I recommend it because I lived and worked with the San in southern Africa until recently and this is the BEST thing I have seen out there, that really, practically helps the San and teaches tourists about some of the real issues still alive in South Africa today...
What's more it's as cheap as chips if you are coming from Europe!

It's just 70 km drive north of Cape Town - takes 40 minutes and just a short drive from the historic village of Darling and the beautiful beaches of Yzerfontein.
If you have a car do not miss a trip to Franschhoek, the gourmet capital of South Africa. Enjoy a great lunch in the Cellars Restaurant after a wine tasting. Each course is accompanied by a different wine and it is a delightful experience.
Go through the village of Franschhoek, take a right at the monument and follow the road up the pass for approximately two kilometres.
When in Cape Town visit Mama Africa restaurant. There is live music and the food and wine list is excellent. The place is crowded so if you like a good seat make a reservation.

For THE African experience, deffo do not miss out on this:
a) Make sure you book
b) Get a table for 8 o'clock - this is when the atmosphere hots up - arrive early for some lovely outdoor ambience - think Fri/Sat/Sun would be the be the best time to go.
Enjoy
This steak and seafood restaraunt in Cape Town has two venues: one in Mouille Point and one on the Camps Bay strip. Both are excellent and do a fantastic steak. It's always the first place we go for dinner in Cape Town.
Other good places to eat are
Yindees in Tamberskloof (Thai), Posticino in Sea Point (pizza) and
Fine Dining - Mount Nelson (The Nelly)
New Cumberland Building, 163 Beach Road, Mouille Point and Victoria Road, Camps Bay
One of the finest seafood restaurants I've ever eaten in. Try the Crustacean or Mixed Platter. You need to take a taxi and don't be disappoitned at the outside, just go in and taste their wide selection of fish. Reserve a table because it is very popular. Great atmoshere and not to be missed.

If you've got a car, this restaurant is worth a detour. Absolutely fantastic - the best restaurant I've ever eaten in.
If you're on a budget, even the bar food is out of this world.
Franschoek is beautiful and worth seeing anyway, so book a room and stay the night.

When you reach the sea you'll be at Muizenberg, the traditional Jewish beach of Cape Town. You'll then pass along the coast through the sea fishing resorts of Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek. You can buy gurnod straight from the boat. The final station is Simonstown which used to be a Royal Navy base. Nearby are the famous penguins. Have a seafood dinner with chilled Cape chardonnay from the neaby vineyards.
An old theatre converted to a bohemian style cafe, this South-Peninsula haunt is well-known to locals. The atmosphere is lively, friendly and irreverent, but the real treat is the food. Sumptuous cooked breakfasts, delicious baked breads and pastries, as well as fresh Cape seafoods from the harbour across the road and beyond.
Main Road, Kalk Bay Phone: +27 (21) 788-6396
A quaint and vibrant area, perfect for a sunday stroll, right on the seafront with a view across False Bay to Gordon's Bay and Strand. It is jam packed with brilliant restaurants (Brass Bell, Cape to Cuba, Polano to mention a few). And it has the best ice cream in town plus wonderful antique, art, jewellery and other assorted (but interesting) old shops to browse through (including a nursery) and, best of all, is easy to access by car or train.
It is on the route for a drive to Simon's Town/Cape Point and near to Muizenberg beach for those who want to swim or stroll on the sand. The best place for a meeting of old friends.
Road: Past Fish Hoek on Main Road (heading towards Simon's Town), just before Boyes Drive intersects with Main Road.
Train: the train track runs right past and there is (as far as I know!) a station at Kalk Bay
