In the corner of the province of Jaen, between Granada and Córdoba, timidly hidden is the fantastic town of Alcalá la Real. Moorish La Mota castle houses a nice museum. The area called El Llanillo is notorious for its historic construction from many different time periods, especially the Abacial Palace built around 1780 clearly exhibiting a Baroque style with French and Italian details. Being as Alcalá is the starting point in Andalucian baroque architecture, the traditional hand-made crafts such as leather goods, embroidery and pottery are beautiful and enticing. I loved this town and its people!

Alcalá la Real lies 50km to the north-west of Granada. Almost all direct buses between Granada and Jaén stop at Alcalá. Granada is a mere 25 min away by bus whilst Jaén is 45 mins away.
