Poor old Alicante; widely dismissed as merely the airport at which planeloads of Benidorm-bound tourists disembark, it is a bustling cosmopolitan city in its own right.

Some of the most rewarding activities here involve enjoying the food and drink, from browsing the well-stocked central market to sampling the famous local rice dishes (of which paella is only one) and the hedonistic nightlife (after a quick siesta on the beach).
