    Yuste

Posted by lucerito 25 October 2009

Yuste monastery is a building of the National Patrimony, it is from centuries ownership of kings of Spain. The monks have lived in it for secular tradition since King Carlos the I. In the 16th century the king of Germany chose this place to retire. It is situated between big mountains. The scenery is wonderful for walking. The building is an interesting historical place and the surrounders are excellent for nature lovers. There are abundant oaks and wild plants. In spring and autumn it looks lovely, but even in summer it is a perfect weekend escape to nature because of its mild microclima.
I recommend some of the rural homes for letting, but I stayed at La Abadía de Yuste, a tasty not so expensive, cosy restaurant and it is also a small rural hotel. It is very near to the Monastery, and usually a walk of about 40 minutes, or a trip by car of five minutes.

By car. From Madrid, take the highway A-5 Madrid- Badajoz. Turn of the general highway in Navalmoral de la Mata and go along through Jarandilla de la Vera, passing through it, keep going along in the road to Plasencia, about 20 minutes after Jarandilla is situated Cuacos de Yuste, the town of the monastery and La Abadía de Yuste.
