Atzaro is a sleepy, zen-like agriturismo by day and by night comes alive as a hip, twinkly sushi restaurant/cocktail lounge (dress up). Detox in the 43m lap pool and super spa and then loll around on huge four poster daybeds with a cocktail to hand. Rooms are spacious and have an Eastern influence (some with sunken stone baths and a personal pool!). The front desk/ concierge service will book you those elusive Ibizian taxis and hot spots like Jockey club. Atzaro is the perfect antidote to hedonistic Ibiza.

A great agroturismo hideaway. Not too big, with a decent pool and rooms with terraces - although more rooms are being built. Great service with thoughtful staff, although limited "room service"

30 mins from everywhere, yet quiet and a wonderful place to relax. Perhaps a little overpriced however thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

The now infamous Jet Apartments on Playa D'en Bossa's main beach are very basic accommodation. However the location cannot be beaten. The complex houses the famous Bora Bora beach bar and is across the road from Space Nightclub, the Waterpark and a €6 taxi ride to Ibiza town.
There are a few very luxurious, but not too expensive, agroturismos on the island. These family-run hotels, usually converted from old fincas, are much more stylish than the Italian versions — but still offer peaceful, rural locations and some have pools.

I know San Antonio has a bit of a reputation, but this is completely unjustified. Yes, there is the West End and the clubs (hurrah!), but people must not forget chilled out bars like Mambos, Cafe Del Mar and Coastline, and the infamous, breathtaking sunset. No better place to spend a special occasion with a cocktail, watching the spectacular fire eaters who come out at night.

The San Antonio promenade is full of young teenagers, families and older people walking in the evening. Bar M and Orange Corner along this area are fab for lunch and people watching, Itaca does gorgeous caprhina cocktails and the beach is practically empty and peaceful, believe it or not.

There's an amazing Tex Mex restaurant and the Curry Club is one of the best curry places anywhere. Hotel Arenal is in a perfect location with huge rooms, an indoor and outdoor pool, air con and great staff (I should know, I was a rep there for 2 years, and I stayed there). So before you write it off, choose this all-rounder of a resort to spend a week. I guarantee it won't be your only visit.

A lovely rural hotel on an organic farm nestled in a sleepy valley in the north of Ibiza. Rooms have been restored according to strict eco-criterea: the walls are covered in clay plaster and painted with natural pigments. There's no TV, air-con, hairdryers and no pool - though it's not far from the beach. And the entire farm is run along sustainble prinicples.

An idyllic retreat on Europe's favourite party island.

Given the popularity of Ibiza with the jetset of Jade Jagger, Kate Moss, Noel Gallagher and the like, it’s surprising that the White Isle only has one five-star hotel. Perched on the edge of a rugged cliff in the north-west of Ibiza, the Hotel Hacienda Na Xamena is far away from the maddening crowds of San Antonio and Ibiza Town and all the better for it.

Surrounded by the pine tree forests typical of the island, the white-walled hotel discreetly blends into the landscape, bearing no resemblance to the high-rise developments of the tourist areas. The 63 rooms all have a sea view, some have jacuzzis and some rooms even have a second jacuzzi out on a balcony-garden – you can just imagine supermodels and DJs knocking back bottles of champagne here.

The stunning pool offers an opportunity for sunning yourself if the walk down to the beach seems a bit much while the Arabian-style restaurant serves up sumptuous haute cuisine.

But, and there had to be one, a few things let down its five-star rating – the TV, for example, was the smallest I’ve seen in years and the bathroom was a little dated. Grumbles aside, and if you don’t mind being off-the-beaten-track, this is a glimpse of Ibiza’s jetset.
