Spain
Here you definitely get the best views of this bustling capital. This Art Deco arts centre in the heart of the city near Sol has an enormous rooftop from which you can enjoy incredible vistas from all sides and angles. Get your 2€ ticket from the reception and hop the lift to the top. You can sometimes get to see a live jazz bank at night which gives you a totally different impression. It's a MUST but the rooftop viewing is only available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 to 14 hours and 16.30 to 20.00 hours.

A sky resort mainly, but there are some mountains you can climb and other trails you can follow.
A local told us you can follow a trail from Puerto de Navacerrada back down to the town of Cercedilla which takes about three hours.
Absoutely amazing views on top of the mountains of Madrid and Castilla y Leon. Makes for an amazing day out.
Take the train from Nuevos Ministerios, Atocha or Charmartin to Cercedilla where you change to take the train up the hill to Puerto de Navacerrada. Takes about two hours in total from Charmartin.
From there, follow other hikers up the hill and the various trail signs.
A town in central spain that you can easily get to from Madrid.
It is my favourite place in Spain - it has an amazing aquaduct, a beautiful castle which is supposed to be the inspiration for the Disney/Cinderella Castle, a lovely cathedral and the usual well kept central plaza with lots of great bars/restaurants.
You can get a local train from Madrid to Segovia station.
The perfect place for a mid-morning vermut (martini rosso) with obligatory free bowl of green olives. Sit at any of the historic bars and admire the views of this beautiful square and the Teatro Espanol. Don't miss the heladeria next door serving delicious dulce de leche ice cream.
Plaza Santa Ana
A beautifully situated fortress city adjacent to the majestic Tajo river. Don't miss the enormous cathedral and the medieval fortress. For the best view of the city take to the hills on the southern outskirts of the city.
There are plenty of 'Cercanias' trains which depart from Atocha station.
On the edge of the Austrias district, the café tables here look out over the Casa de Campo park into the far distance. Order a whole tortilla de patatas for two or more of you.
This is a new hotel in the centre of Madrid. The best bit though is the roof terrace bar where you can sit on the white leather recliners or big cushions by the pool and watch the sun set ... or have a sharpener before heading out ... or just watch the cool young things try to out cool each other!
