    Skiing in Are

Posted by elliottnj 31 January 2012

Simply fantastic skiing and the most amazing tented BBQ-picnic spots all over the mountain. Breathtaking scenery and no French style lift queues. Having skied in Sweden it will take a lot of persuading to go back to the busy, concrete resorts in the Alps.

    Ski-in bar Fjall Garden

Posted by willydoc 1 November 2009

Fjall Garden is an amazing bar just 500m above the main cable car station in Are. It's done out as a hunting lodge, with open fires and a sundeck with reindeer skins on the south terrace. It has amazing apres-ski with live bands from 4pm. Best of all, you can get up to it from town on the little funicular railway, or ski down from the chairlifts. It's only a 500m slide if you have to ski back to the main village well refreshed and wobbly of leg.

Top of the funicular from beside the Are ski shop.

    Blue runs

Posted by Krisbluecruiser 10 November 2006

Many of Are's blue runs go through subways under the black runs - no more stopping to look up hill for the 'airbourne' - you can just cruise on through.

We flew to Oustrund from Gatwick with Nielson - I think they are going from Heathrow this season - I believe Sweden is a fairly new ski destination by air but I understand Brits have long been visiting Are by an excellent sleeper train from Stockholm.
