The Tiger Temple is a Buddhist temple about 38km from Kanchanaburi. The monks look after numerous animals, among them several tame tigers that walk around freely once a day and can be petted by tourists.
As a Bangkok resident I love nothing more than to get out into the Thai countryside. After 20+ visits I've discovered temples in caves, Chinese graves, villages with buffaloes, pot-holing and waterfalls galore. Just head west (and buy a map first so you don't get lost).
Over the river towards the mountains. Get a map and if you have a compass, then all the better. Just ride and enjoy. (one of these days I'll create a map!)
Managed to stumble across this place nearly a year ago, an elephant sanctuary, homestay, nature appreciation centre all mixed up and set in beautiful scenery. Have been back four times now and having more fun each time. See their website for all the info.
