Apple and Noi, two local women, run this extremely friendly guesthouse. The accommodation itself is quite basic, but even if you choose not to stay, make sure you go along for a meal - the food is the best we had in Thailand. Not only that, but Noi runs entertaining cookery courses (lasting the best part of the day, costing about £15) which will teach you how to make such dishes yourself.

Managed to stumble across this place nearly a year ago, an elephant sanctuary, homestay, nature appreciation centre all mixed up and set in beautiful scenery. Have been back four times now and having more fun each time. See their website for all the info.

Kanchancburi is a busy little place. The crowds are drawn, of course, by the bridge over the river Kwai.

I therefore recommed this guesthouse as a little oasis of calm and beauty amongst the crowds.

It is on the main street, but just behind the gates are lovely gardens and simple but stylish rooms. Pay an extra 100 baht and get an outside shower in a private garden.

A great budget place, right on the Kwai. Rooms are based around a large, green garden area, looking over the river with plenty of hammocks for chilling out. They do good food & drinks as well, although it's best to avoid the terrible selection of movies they show in the evening.
