Both Phi-Phi Don and Phi-Phi Ley deserve the reputation they have for stunning beauty. However they have been taken over somewhat by twentysomethings drinking alcohol out of a bucket and wanting to get laid. If that is what you are looking for, this is the place for you! If this is not what you are looking for and you are not twenty anymore it is quite off putting, but the islands are stunning and they are worth the trip. Particularly beautiful is nearby Bamboo island which you can stay on, is simply stunning and very peaceful.

    Sharks

Posted by deathfaerie 2 December 2005

Like most people who enjoy seawater fun, I’ve often wondered about the possibility of a shark encounter. In about 95% of cases, the attacking species is either a great white, tiger or bull. Thailand has neither great whites nor bulls. But there are tigers in Thai waters. There has been just one shark attack in Thailand in recent years and it was fatal. But this record is better than the USA, Australia and many other places. So I would say it is probably one of the safer places. Go here to see this for yourself : www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/Sharks/Statistics/statistics.htmClick on 'biological profile' and then select each of the above species. Scroll down the page to see the world's oceans and where each species can be found. Note that great whites and bulls are not in the waters of the Andaman sea - off the west coast of Thailand.
