It's not posh, not pretentious, but it has enthusiastic, knowledgeable owners who really care about this wonderful area. It's both clean and comfortable and very affordable. The nearby beach is world renowned, yet not overcrowded. There are amazing archaeological sites to be explored and great excursions available too. Where else would you holiday in a place mentioned in the Bible? (Acts21:1)

It was the most perfect canoe ever - the owners of St Nicholas Pension, Patara take you and your canoes up into the mountainous interior and drop you off to the spend the whole day canoeing back down to the stunning coast with beautiful sand dunes and ruins (it's where Father Christmas was born by the way!) The owners also meet you for a picnic lunch half-way down. There's mountain backdrop scenery, turtles, martins swooping into riverbank nests and some not too hair-raising white-water bits. A friend and I went some years ago and still rave about.
The following website has everything - info about St.Nicholas Pension, excursions and how to get there - www.stnicholaspensionpatara.com
Jimmy and his family are very very friendly. They are inexpensive, sell everything and take you to their hearts. A trip to Patara without visiting them is a void.
On the road to the beach
This is a small, family-run pension with 12 guest rooms. Each room has a private bath with shower and air conditioner.
The room was clean and basic, but the common areas are what we really enjoyed. The outdoor dining area is covered with a large grape arbor.
The covered veranda offered a comfy place to read and drink tea before and after going to the beach. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and the owner's wife also cooks supper, so I ate several evening meals there also.
Depending on the time of year and the occupancy rate, a single may be had for as little as 15 lira a day!

The hotel 4* accommodation HB basic but drinks are not expensive, family atmosphere, staff helpful, rooms are air conditioned, tv, minibar, fan machine, sea view, quiet and clean. Big botanic garden, tennis, mini football, basketball, big swimming pool, Turkish bath, sauna is free of charge.
We stayed here last year and didn't want to leave. We planned to stay in Patara for just a day or two but ended up staying longer and this had a great deal to do with Kazim and his family. We hadn't booked anywhere and when we arrived stumbled across this place.
We were straight away invited to sit with the family and were then shown our clean and comfortable room.
Patara is a beautiful quiet place to relax and Kazim and his family make the stay even more pleasant. The home cooking was the best we had during our stay in Turkey with veg picked fresh from the gardens. It was also one of the only places where as a vegetarian I was given a different and tasty meal each night.
When we finally decided to leave Kazim helped us to arrange our next place to stay but nowhere we stayed in Turkey was quite as lovely as Akay pension.
We would highly recommend you stay here for value for money and a real Turkish experience.

This pension was the best deal we made while travelling around Turkey. We paid only 30 new Turkish Lira for three persons with breakfast. We achieved this price in Kas as well but the quality was incomparable. We did not get a room; we got a whole little house. Huge fully equipped kitchen with fridge, nice big clean bathroom and great bed with mosquito nets as this area is supposed to have lots of insects.
Patara lies on the shore, where in the past used to be a commercial harbour. The harbour no longer exists but the area is still quite wet and therefore an ideal place for insects. Anyway we did not have problems with the mosquitoes at all.
The pension is run by a middle-aged couple, incredibly nice people who have two sons but neither of them wants to take over the business. So if you wish to stay here make sure you do not postpone it too long. The city, pension itself and brilliant breakfast prepared by "mum" and nice evening talks with the "papa" will ensure you will have a wonderful time here. He will also give you a lift to the beach in the morning. If you are interested in the nearby ruins, the pension has some books in English about them. Papa’s English is quite good; Mum's is struggling a bit, but her friendly approach makes up for it. Credit cards accepted.

Over the years we have stayed in many of Patara's hotels but have found the Hotel Sema to be by far the best in terms of location, hospitality and price.
The friendliness and service of the Sema is second to none and the family who run it couldn't have been more hospitable.

For me, Golden Pension feels like a homecoming. It’s basic, clean and friendly. The atmosphere is familiar. There is a wonderful balcony where one can enjoy breakfast and dinner under a canopy of vine leaves.
This huge beach (some say 18km, some say 23) is beautiful. I have never been to such a peaceful secluded beach in the Med - lovely.
If you are feeling energetic take a walk from the 'town' centre past the bread and water restaurant and follow the road. Eventually you come to the sand dunes. Time it right and take a bottle of wine to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Lycia pension is family run with clean, cheap rooms and a small pool. Excursions for canoe trips and safari can be booked from the village.
