    Mitchell's Holiday Cottage

Posted by karenlass 15 April 2008

Gardenstown is a gem of a village with pretty painted cottages surrounded by sandstone cliffs and the north sea. Mitchell's Cottage is on main street just a one-minute walk from the atmospheric local pub Garden Arms. The cottage has just been renovated with a superb dining kitchen, working fire in the sitting room for those cosy nights in and a big shower bath to soak in at the end of the day. If you're exploring Scotland don't miss Gardenstown and Mitchell's Cottage.

    Dunnottar Castle

Posted by lesablack 3 January 2008

You want drama? You got it. Dunnottar Castle in Aberdeenshire is about as dramatic as it gets. An ancient ruined castle sitting precariously on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the ragged North Sea - it has been home to some of Scotland's best history, from William Wallace to the siege of Cromwell's army.

You can explore both inside and out, and then take a run along the coastal path and a peek among the rockpools down on the little beach. A perfect day out for both boys and girls! Also a good spot for budding photographers too - you can't fail to take a great pic here.

    www.dunnottarcastle.co.uk/ nearest town is Stonehaven.

    Old Aberdeen and Seaton Park

Posted by Quine 16 December 2007

Found at the northern edge of the
city, this community first sprung up around the King's College campus of the university of Aberdeen around the 15th century. Take a walk along cobbled streets and walk back into time.

Also in the vicinity is Seaton Park which has a fantastic formal garden and also brilliant walks along the banks of the river Don where seals are commonly seen. You may also spot deer who can often be seen grazing.

Cosy holiday cottage in the beautiful fishing village of Gardenstown, Abderdeenshire. My partner and I enjoyed fabulous food (courtesy of the Harbour Cafe) and wonderful walks along rugged, and unspoilt coastline.

Feels like a million miles away, well I guess it is nearly!

    Sandy's

Posted by warmsandybeach 6 February 2007

To start, it was voted 2nd in the Guardian Top 10 Chippies in the UK. Why? Because it rocks, plain and simple. Have had some good fish & chips in the UK, but nothing beats Sandy's.

    National Cycle network

Posted by DaveCheseldine 21 June 2006

This weekend just gone, I cycled the National Cycle Network from Aberdeen to Inverness with a young Australian.

I have lived in Australia and New Zealand and am well aware of how their "life is there to be enjoyed" attitude coming from living in a country
on the up contrasts with our own cynical mentality from years of living in a country which in many ways is so much worse than the one I grew up in in the 70s.

However I realised over the weekend that the National Cycle Network is one of our few chinks of hope. The Australian was amazed at the work
that had gone into the routes we cycled on, the quality of the granite infrastructure on the disused railway tracks that made up our entire
first night from Aberdeen to Fraserburgh and the fact that English country lanes are metalled where they would be dust in Australia. He
repeatedly said that nothing like the National Cycle Network exists in Australia. I can definitely say nothing like the network exists in New
    Zealand either.

The Moray coast is very unknown and unvisited and rough camping on the shore was not a problem. You can take in Pennan, where Local Hero was filmed, and Findhorn, the hippy community.
