Easton in Bristol is home to this small vegetarian restaurant, offering excellent, unusual vegetarian dishes. On a recent visit pistachio and shallot wontons and cashew cakes were among dishes that make one smile for days after. Cafe Maitreya only opens for dinner and bookings are recommended. Go for the three course menu, you'll enjoy every last morsel!

An oasis of a cafe on Gloucester Road. Relaxing and very friendly. Serving organic vegetarian food, delicious homemade cakes and the best hot chocolate. Includes vegan and gluten free options.

This place covers a range of organic, veggie and vegan foods; with many of the courses being experimental and *always* worth it. You can pick something random and it will amaze you. Excellent friendly service, this place is always busy and once you've been there you'll understand.

You're unlikely to find the celebrity carnivore likes of Gordon Ramsay dining out here. The national vegetarian society have judged this the top vegetarian restaurant in the UK two years running. It's difficult to fault their judgment. The food is fresh, seasonal and organic. The desserts are difficult to resist.

Commendable co-op that does good coffee as well as vegetarian and vegan food. All ingredients are organic or sourced locally making this an ethical, guilt-free place to eat. Sadly, there's not a single 'Now' compilation in their jukebox.

Easton is a free spirited neighbourhood. Reflecting the outlook of the community is Kebele, a social centre that began life as an anarchist squat. It shows films, has a library, internet access and runs a bike workshop. Open from 6pm on Sundays, the hub is the cafe where you can engage in political and philosophical discussion to your hearts content. The food is vegan and the coffee is all from the Zapatista region of Mexico.
