When my family relocated to Ely I helped them move in. New in the town, I asked a passerby where to find lightbulbs. 'Ely Cycle Centre'
was the Fenlander's confident response. Sure enough, after all the bikes, I spied the lightbulbs along with everything else you could possibly need. Now whenever we visit Ely we head to the cycle centre.
I'll discuss sewing patterns in the little haberdashery section at the back, while my daughter looks at board games and my husband heads to the DIY department. As yet we've bought everything except the bikes at Ely Cycle Centre. But Christmas is coming!

A short walk from Ely Station, past the glorious cathedral rising out from the Fens, on the unpretentious High Sreet, you'll find this wonderful bookshop. Walk in through the modest frontage into the comfort of a labyrinth of aesthetic shelved rooms on three floors. Knowledgable staff are happy to help, recommend and advise; but equally happy to leave you to browse, even encouraging this by bringing freshly brewed coffee or tea. Regular, meet the author, events are also held.

Ely Folk Festival is a small friendly festival held on the second weekend of July. Weekend tickets cost £45. The line up has all the sort of things a
folk festival should such as late night dances, a real ale and cider bar and informal sessions.

Ely is a lovely town to visit as well. The perfect alternative if you left it too late to get tickets for the Cambridge Folk Festival.
