Harrogate is an old fashioned north Yorks spa town, which is definitely on the up. Benefiting from the regeneration of nearby Leeds, and its new found wealth, it enjoys a strange combination of old-world tea shops (Betty's is legendary), and chic boutique hotels - the Hotel du Vin is excellent.
