A music venue in the popular drinking area that is Concert Square. Go past all the awful chain bars and two-for-one drinking venues and escape to Korova just up Fleet Street. Wicked venue, illustrations and graphics cover the walls and there are booths in the bar to relax in. During the day there's good food and drink, of an evening you can catch a band or go to one of the club nights. Usually has something going on most evenings.

Circo just opened on the Albert Dock- it's a bar and restaurant with a really eccentric circus/freakshow theme - they have life-sized horse lamps and trapeze!

You can hire the private dining room for a night of karaoke- lots of fun! Try the Candyfloss Martini at the bar too...

The Dispensary on Renshaw Street, like all Cains pubs, sells excellent beer. It is small and welcoming with a very diverse clientele.

Try the other Cains pubs - the Brewery Tap or the Baltic Fleet as well.

Albert Dock is the heart and soul of Liverpool's waterfront, with so many cool bars and restaurants, PanAm, Blue, Est Est Est and Baby Cream. New places to eat like Vinea and Circo add to the already vibrant places to eat.

Tate Liverpool, the Site Gallery and many smaller art galleries offer the perfect mix of culture, right next door to the new Arena & Convention Centre. Now the famous Duck Tour and Shiverpool tours are great fun for a day out.

Albert Dock has seen Liverpool grow up in the last 20 years and will remain my favourite place to hang out on a sunny day on the quayside.

Cosy, underground cellars form the three rooms of the bistro. Below ground level, the bistro is a great pre-play venue or meeting place for friends.

When I go home to see my parents we go to the Everyman after I get in to Lime Street. It's really relaxed and although pretty basic, the menu is consistently varied, tasty and fantastic value.

Without exception, my dad orders the delicious tortilla with salads, and the desserts are highly recommended.

The Volunteer is a pub hidden down a back street near the sea front in Waterloo not far from the railway station. It is a small, traditional pub, little bigger than the terraced houses which surround it.

It's a hidden gem - there is no jukebox or music playing, worth a visit if going to see the Iron Men on Crosby beach.

A tiny pub with a brilliant atmosphere. Cosy, underground, with framed newspapers carrying stories about Liverpool from around the world on the walls - The Titanic, Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs, Derek Hatton, The Beatles, Boris Johnson etc. A beer called, 'The Echo' is brewed on site and is delicious. The visitor's book is well worth a look too. Unpretentious and a real gem.

A little corner of Italy in the centre of town. Marvellous food and majestic espresso are all provided by the irrepresible Antonio and his friendly staff. A great atmosphere, not to be missed at any price!

Bar, eating and then a club. Brilliant live music most nights of the week and a great venue with graphics and art all over the walls. This place looks a bit odd opposite some scally pub but don't be put off that they built this is the wrong part of town.

Converted Catholic church in the city centre, all the features have been kept including the 300-year-old stained glass windows. Hundreds of candles adorn the building - it is beautiful.

Albert Dock on the waterfront. Classy bar with booths and lounge for glammed up crowd. The best reason for visiting is the huge bay windows that at night show a lit up albert dock with the Liver Building in the distance.
