An amazing bar and restaurant off Duke Street in Liverpool city centre, it's a former Victorian jail which makes for a very unusual setting to eat.

Despite its former use, the venue is incredibly stylish and cosy and you can still eat in the cells as well as in an elegant dining area upstairs where's there's also a champagne lounge. Food is fab and service is very good. Also very reasonably priced especially with the set meal on a weekday.

Savina is a modern Mexican restaurant in Liverpool city centre. Visited here a couple of times over the last year and it's lovely. Visited again this weekend, was very busy and the service was still very good.

The staff are lovely and food is really nice. I had the Alambre De Pollo, a chicken kebab with some pepper jam type sauce on, it was fantastic and my friends also enjoyed their foods as well. Visit Alma De Cuba afterwards and you will have a memorable trip to Liverpool.

We have booked again for our summer trip to Liverpool. We have even booked again when we come and see Boyzone at the new arena. I would strongly recommend Savina.

This is a great cafe on Rodney Street in central Liverpool, not far from Liverpool Lime Street. They serve a wide range of food; from light lunches to amazing cakes.

I recommend it for convenience, price, atmosphere and generally being a really nice place to hang out for the day.

They have great fresh coffee, the beans are apparently imported from Portugal. After an hour drinking coffee and some delicious 'chocolate salami' we decided to have lunch. The menu had a fantastic selection, all at incredibly reasonable prices, including some Portuguese dishes as well as the old favourites like salads, sandwiches and paninis. I wanted something light so went for the roast vegetable bruschetta, my friend went for the cod fishcakes. Both were excellent and cost around £4.

Cosy, underground cellars form the three rooms of the bistro. Below ground level, the bistro is a great pre-play venue or meeting place for friends.

When I go home to see my parents we go to the Everyman after I get in to Lime Street. It's really relaxed and although pretty basic, the menu is consistently varied, tasty and fantastic value.

Without exception, my dad orders the delicious tortilla with salads, and the desserts are highly recommended.

A cosy little cafe in the heart of the city. A great place to go for lunch if you enjoy veggie and vegan cuisine. Very friendly staff, freshly cooked everything and all very cheap! If you are lucky you may even meet their resident harpist.

Great food and a lively atmosphere! Billed as Pan-Asian, it offers a range of Japanese, Chinese and Thai food, with my personal favourite being the crispy chilli beef.

The interior is amazing; a huge, bright and modern feel to it. Very chic and relaxed! The music is something worth popping in for too. DJs keep the bar lively, playing everything from house to funk and disco. As far as city centre venues go this one gets my vote.

Circo just opened on the Albert Dock- it's a bar and restaurant with a really eccentric circus/freakshow theme - they have life-sized horse lamps and trapeze!

You can hire the private dining room for a night of karaoke- lots of fun! Try the Candyfloss Martini at the bar too...

Giant dragons dancing in the street, eating lettuces and followed by loud drums and even louder firecrackers. A funfair, street food and families just out for a days' fun. All in a compact, interesting and friendly area.

In the city centre, go up Bold Street (where the WAGs shop) and follow the crowds. It's in February.

Albert Dock is the heart and soul of Liverpool's waterfront, with so many cool bars and restaurants, PanAm, Blue, Est Est Est and Baby Cream. New places to eat like Vinea and Circo add to the already vibrant places to eat.

Tate Liverpool, the Site Gallery and many smaller art galleries offer the perfect mix of culture, right next door to the new Arena & Convention Centre. Now the famous Duck Tour and Shiverpool tours are great fun for a day out.

Albert Dock has seen Liverpool grow up in the last 20 years and will remain my favourite place to hang out on a sunny day on the quayside.

Lark Lane is a road next to Sefton Park in south Liverpool, which is worth a visit for an evening or a summer afternoon. There are lots of independent shops, pubs and bars, and restaurants which serve food from Thailand through to Turkey. Have a picnic in the park, then call into Keiths wine bar for a glass of wine and people watching.

The Ziba is a restaurant based in the boutique hotel at the Racquet Club. It is not as widely reviewed as some of the other restaurants for fine dining in Liverpool but has been serving excellent food for many years.

It's located in a beautiful building in the central business district, and is a must for a special night out.

Vegetarian Whole food Cafe

A top tip for a tasty lunch for around a fiver. Funky exhibitions from local artists. Cool tunes in an ambient style. Live music provided by a resident harpist.

It's a chance to rub shoulders with the Scouse literati and wrap your lips round a stonking beanburger.

Toilet needs nerves of steel, stout heart and effortless self confidence.

Popular with Liverpool locals, especially gap year and arty types, the Egg does great vegan food, reasonably priced and really tasty. The caff is not just for vegans and veggies, but for anyone who wants a real taste of Liverpool culture. You have to keep your eyes peeled to spot the entrance though!
