    Tango at 33 Portland Place

Posted by jltn 9 September 2008

Set in the former Sierra Leone embassy (think shabby chic, imagine the history of this august building), every week tangueros turn up to roll back the rugs, exposing the wooden floors, and dance the night away.

There's a 1.5-2 hour beginners' class at 6:30pm, followed by a social dancing milonga until 11:30pm. The whole lot costs just £10 and there are snacks and drinks.

Great for a romantic evening, learning a new skill, meeting a diverse set of people with something in common, and exploring a new part of London. Who could ask for more?!

33 Portland Place; nearest Tube Great Portland Street or Warren Street.

    Ice skating at Somerset House

    Posted by jets57 14 February 2006

From November to January, the courtyard of Somerset House, one of London's most beautiful buildings, is used as a giant ice rink.

Ideal for first dates - you'll probably have to grab on to each other at some point.

Grab a blanket, some friends and chill out with a bottle (or more!) of wine and an amazing view of the city from the top of the hill.

    The Havelock

Posted by JPWKing 2 September 2005

Tucked into a little pocket of peace in between Olympia, Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush, Brook Green is one of the most peaceful and 'villagey' areas of central London. And in the midst of it's charming backstreets and friendly pubs lies the Havelock, a simple, busy pub serving simply excellent food.

The Rose Garden at Regents Park

Posted by HughMuir 16 August 2005

Londoners are spoilt for choice when it comes to open spaces, but for many Regents Park is the jewel in the crown. Where better to pass a romantic summer day than in the finest garden in London dedicated to the symbol of romance?

Tucked away on a quiet street in Fitzrovia, this trendy five-star hotel is home to an intimate basement cinema. The Sunday night film club costs about £35 and includes a three-course meal at Oscar, the hotel's restaurant, and entrance to a film screening.

It's an affordable way to wine, dine and flop in front of a celluloid classic. The bright orange leather seats are pretty stylish and roomy enough to snuggle up in the back row-would really impress on a first date.

    Bam-Bou restaurant

    Posted by pollyanna99 14 February 2006

A lovely low-lit restaurant just off Charlotte Street, serving top-end Chinese/Thai/Vietnamese food in a French colonial-style townhouse.

Not the cheapest but perfect date or anniversary territory.
