Twice as nice
Lynmouth hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons in 1952 when a flood swept through the deep valley that channels the river Lyn to the sea, carrying 40,000 tons of debris with it and killing 34 people. This harbour town, which lies at the bottom of one of Devon’s steepest roads, and its twin, Lynton, that sits on top of the cliff, are much better noted for their situation in one of the county's outstanding areas of natural beauty. The stretch of north Devon coast that they occupy affords beautiful views, challenging walks and natural parkland that any part of the UK would find hard to rival.
