Duckett and Jeffreys is the sort of contemporary modern art gallery you'd expect to see in Cork Street, London, except this is in Malton a small rural market town in the heart of Ryedale, North Yorkshire. It shows solo exhibitions of work by international artists. It truly is a breath of fresh air, and just what the region needs. This gallery proves you don't have to go to major cities to see superb modern art. In fact I'd go on to say it's the best independently run modern art gallery in the north of England.

There can't be many cinemas that serve tea in china cups and saucers, and that, together with the wonderfully comfortable plush velvet seats and art deco lights, makes the family-run Palace Cinema in Malton a much loved local gem. All the latest films make it here to one of the two tiny screens only a week or so after they appear at the complex down the road and you get a personal preview of the film from Jeremy the owner as he sells tickets, icecreams and wine (in real glasses of course!) It's amazing value and you don't have to read the weekly Tommy Cooper-style joke on the website - but you'd miss a giggle if you didn't!

Traditional Yorkshire inn offering good food, range of beers and wines with accommodation. Large bar, cosy corners and real log fires plus huge pool hall with American and English tables. Big screen TV showing all live sporting events and live entertainment. Great place for families looking to explore local area. Only 20 minutes form York and Scarborough.
