    The Midland Hotel, Morecambe

Posted by VDunne 25 May 2012

Restored to it's former Art Deco glory, The Midland Hotel is a stunning place to have a really special afternoon tea. Served in the original sunroom which looks out over Morecambe Bay, there is a choice from scones with jam and cream right up to the extraordinary Champagne Afternoon Tea. This gives you a selection of freshly made finger sandwiches, such as cucumber, ham, and smoked salmon; a scone with jam and clotted cream, mini proiteroles, strawberries, cake and of course a glass of champagne along with the pot of high quality tea. All beautifully presented, and to be savoured along with the magnificent view. A real treat. £22.50 for the Champagne tea, down to £8.50 for the Midland Cream Tea. Booking is advisable at the weekend.

    Morecambe

Posted by Pixcel 26 July 2011

Come off the M6 at junction 35. Morecambe is just a wonderful place for a stop off, and only a few miles from the motorway. Park anywhere along Marine Road, and take a bracing, and hopefully sunny walk along the sea front. If you're there late afternoon, the light can be glorious and taking photos of the sands, the boats with the Cumbrian hills over the bay is just a dream. Finish off with a cup of tea and scone at Eric's Cafe on Marine Road, which is just behind the delightful statue of Eric himself.

    Yacht Bay View Hotel

Posted by tiojo 15 January 2011

These days Morecambe is a bit run down though with the renovation of the art deco Midland Hotel it may be on the up. But what will never change is the Bay and the wonderful views across to the Lake District. And that's where the Yacht Bay View Hotel scores. A traditional B&B in a four-storey stone built house right on the sea front. Good rooms with big bay windows have uninterrupted views right across the Bay. All the rooms have been renovated. Good comfortable beds, easy chairs to sit, have a cup of tea, borrow the binoculars and watch the view. Even towel dressing gowns to relax in. All for £66 per night per room with a great a la carte, cooked to order breakfast included.

    Brucciani's ice cream parlour

Posted by MoragR 1 April 2007

Cafes don’t come more swellegant than Brucciani’s, a shrine for lovers of art deco as well as gelato. Opened in 1939, the shop has earned Grade II listed status for its immaculately preserved oak panelling, pink mirrors etched with Italian scenes, chrome window frames and Bakelite fittings. Bruno and Gloria Brucciani have been running the business for nearly 50 years, and still bustle around the premises dusting, polishing and serving up their classic confections.

Ice creams are mostly traditional flavours – strawberry, pistachio, lemon, toffee crunch – and sundaes are simple but excellent standards, including peach melba, chocolate nut sundae, fruit sundae. The coffee is famous, but you can also live it up with a Bovril or a glass of sarsaparilla.

The location is superb: sit at a formica-topped table in the front and you can gaze over the whipped peaks of your sundae towards the shadowy hills of the Lake District.

    217 Marine Parade, Morecambe, Lancashire. Tel: 01524 421386. Open: 10am – 5pm, daily.
