Castle Urquhart on Loch Ness
The untamed wilderness of the Highlands is ideal walking territory – wooded glens, a rugged coastline, dramatic peaks, majestic lochs and misty isles. The spectacular scenery is best washed down with a wee dram from one of the region’s fine distilleries. If you’re looking for a taste of the Highlands, browse tips on how best to explore it. Eagle View guesthouse

This is a great place to stay - small and very friendly, but with lovely rooms (stay in the luxury one with the Victorian bath) and great breakfast. Good base for walking in the Cairngorm area and makes a change from Aviemore.

Newtonmore has a station or just off the A9.
