The Brackley Antiques Cellar

Posted by BestofBritish 21 September 2010

After spending an afternoon in the pretty town of Brackley, we wandered down towards The Brackley Antiques Cellar. The showroom was packed with a fantastic range of antiques from furniture to collectable masks and pottery. We happily spent a good hour in the showroom and could have easily spent thousands; luckily I restrained myself and walked away with only a collection of kitsch mugs!

The Red Lion, Brafield

Posted by BestofBritish 13 September 2010

Looking for a good place for a Saturday afternoon drink we stumbled across The Red Lion at Brafield, and are we glad we did! The pub, obviously well loved and cared for, was beautifully decorated and maintained. It successfully blends the charm of a country pub with a modern bistro setting. We just had a coffee, which came with a shot glass of Maltesers (nice touch) but its range or local ales and spirits was incredible. We will be returning very soon to try out the “Friday Fish Nights”.

Dangs Vietnamese Restaurant

Posted by Forbesy 12 September 2010

I would have never gone to a Vietnamese restaurant if a colleague hadn’t raved about Dangs on the Wellingborough Road in Northampton. As soon as we walked into the restaurant the welcome was fantastic; the staff were efficient and courteous and were happy to recommend or explain the dishes on the menu. We opted for three different dishes; duck, chicken and cod. I can honestly say the fish dish was the best tasting eastern food I have ever tasted - a huge achievement considering I am a self-confessed fish-o-phobe! The total bill was very reasonable, and the restaurant had a great selection of wine. I would definitely recommend Dangs for any occasion!

One of the best walks in Northamptonshire is on the eastern side of the county by the Harringworth Viaduct, which runs across the landscape for three quarters of a mile. As a countryside lover, I was apprehensive at first but was left marvelling at the startling construction of each of the 82 arches and the ease at which the viaduct seems to fit in with its surroundings. A great photo opp here!
