Cuts the mustard

An underrated and beautiful city, often compared to York, but this place is considerably less twee. A largely pedestrianised centre makes it easy to explore and to shop.
Norwich boasts a magnificent cathedral, situated in Cathedral Close - sit there on a spring or summer day and be taken back 200 years. Not to mention more old churches than any other city I've seen, a striking Norman castle museum, a shop devoted entirely to mustard, and the mind bogglingly "ye olde" area around Elm Hill, which features on countless postcards.
There is also a bustling and quirky arts scene - Norwich Arts Centre and its environs, the Waterfront and Cinema City are good places to start, and countless convivial pubs. Explore the winding streets around St Benedicts or the earthier Magdalene St for interesting shops.
Ignore Norwich at your peril - its tag "a fine city" is deceptive in its simplicity.
