Castle Urquhart on Loch Ness
The untamed wilderness of the Highlands is ideal walking territory – wooded glens, a rugged coastline, dramatic peaks, majestic lochs and misty isles. The spectacular scenery is best washed down with a wee dram from one of the region’s fine distilleries. If you’re looking for a taste of the Highlands, browse tips on how best to explore it. The Oban distillery is definitely worth a visit, as is the Tobermory distillery on the Isle of Mull.

The Isle of Kerrera is a very accessible 5 minute ferry ride from Oban. It's car free and for a small island provides wonderful walking and exploring opportunities, especially for families. The tea garden at Lower Gylen with views out over Gylen castle and the Sound of Kerrera is a special spot. It's an easy day trip from Oban or if you have longer it's worth a night or 2 in the bunkhouse at Lower Gylen.

    Easdale Island

Posted by burningbush 28 February 2007

A beautiful tiny island off the west coast of Scotland famous for its slate exports of the 1800's. No cars, good pub, friendly locals, fabulous wildlife and THE most breathtaking scenery and skies on the planet. Just south of Oban, Argyllshire and a few minutes ferry ride from Seal Island. Go there, find peace within and come back feeling the most wealthy of travellers. Heaven can't surely be as good as Easdale!
