Hathersage open-air swimming pool

Posted by yuhalu 9 August 2010

Outdoor heated pool close to the railway station in this Peak District village. We enjoyed a lovely, semi-private family swim on a drizzly early July weekday morning, followed by fabulous fish and chips in the pretty cafe. There's a grassy area for relaxation on warmer days. Explore Hathersage and arrive by the scenic rail route for a relaxing outing for all. Not suitable for total non-swimmers but fine for a five-year-old happy in the water.

Manifold Track

Posted by GDean 23 December 2009

Although most of us could probably do with some exercise to burn off the excess consumption of Christmas Day – we probably won’t want anything too demanding.

The Manifold Track in the Peak District provides a perfect ride along a picturesque Staffordshire valley. It’s a disused railway track, so there are no difficult gradients – and there is car parking at either end (Waterhouses at the south and Hulme End at the north). Although it’s a linear route, viewing the scenery from a different direction makes the the return journey just as interesting – and there are pubs close to each end of the track!

Bugsworth Canal Basin

Posted by Hargate 28 April 2009

There is a lovely walk along the canal and Bugsworth Canal Basin itself is a very interesting site and a great example of the transport network that we used to have.

The Peak Pantry, Eyam

Posted by rachelcotterill 27 March 2009

Fantastic coffee and delicious cakes in a perfectly quaint little teashop. Not cheap, but worth every penny.

Eyam (don't know the road but it's in the middle of this very tiny village!)
