I discovered the REAL Cornwall, after years of family holidays in 'obvious' places, by going on a week long walking holiday with Martin Hunt.
He leads walks over moors, along coastal paths, across beaches, up hills and down creeks and valleys. He knows magical, secret places that I'd never have discovered on my own and he's got amazing knowlegde of local flora, fauna and folklore and geology. Does tasy packed lunches as well! Excellent.
You don't have to be super fit but a bit of agility helps and although I had a good time on my own, there were also couples and groups of friends.

The best bar for miles. The food is always fantastically good (try the Blue Burger!!), the view out on to the beach is beautiful whatever the weather and it's such a chilled out place you'll wish you lived there!

The menu is as traditional as can be (it's stayed much the same since the 1930s), except for the appearance on it of cod whale: a huge, meaty fillet of fish. And the chips are made from local potatoes. Fish and chips is consistently good - this is no-frills, staff-of-life stuff. Neatly uniformed ladies serve all the traditional accompaniments - triangles of bread and butter, cups of tea - amid the gentle hum of true Cornish accents. A full range of takeaway, too, plus the downtown location and easy parking, make the 40-mile round trip from home more than worthwhile. For more than 20 years our family's favourite.
