We stayed in a lovely farm cottage at Totley Bents for the week. The cottage was situated on the edge of the Peak District on a working farm. We went walking in Hathersage and Castleton, had some brilliant drives along lovely purple/brown moors, and went into Sheffield for some retail therapy.

The decor and facilities were excellent (fresh flowers in the living room), and we had lovely views from the windows. We also had some brilliant local walks with spectacular scenery, and there was a lovely local pub just a stone's throw away for the much needed pint after roaming the countryside.

The owners (Ian and Ann) were really helpful and welcoming. All in all, this was an excellent relaxing place to stay and I can't wait to go again in the winter months to try out the log-burning fire-stove.

A wonderful restaurant owned and operated by the formidable Nirmal Gupta. She'll sit with you as you order, and won't let you order simply what you want, you'll end up with vast numbers of side dishes and extras as well, but it's all fabulous.

The lamb massallam in particular is phenomenal, and if you have a large party you can order an entire leg of lamb if you give the restaurant 48 hours notice. The lamb will spend that 48 hours marinading to perfection. She also always seems to have the most delicious fresh mangoes for dessert as well.

Once when I was staying at Sheffield with my Grandma, and it was a beautiful sunny day. We had been looking for a exploring stream, but also one that we could enjoy the lovley sunshine. Then I asked if we could go to Padley Gorge. We went there, and it was beautiful! The swirly, twirly water was shallow and deep, so my younger 5 year old brother could paddle. The stream is in the middle of a valley overlooking the rocky ravines and paths. Not to mention the breathtaking waterfall!

After having a paddle, we all decided to go up one of the rocky paths. After walking for fifteen minutes, we came across a water spring leading down to the stream we had explored earlier. We followed it up, and where the spring started, we found a saucepan that someone had hung on the end of a tree. My little brother filled it up, watering all the nearby trees. After that we went down the hill back to the path. I saw some rocks on the way the car covered in moss. They were Lovely. I sat down on a rock. I thought: "I'm telling all my friends about this place. I'ts sooo lovely." And that is what i'm doing. Five star place, and all free!

National Trust estate of Longshaw, path leading to Grindleford station. Meals and snacks are nearby. Bues run from Sheffield to Fox house pub.

Excellent traditional fish and chipshop feeding the thousands of home counties students who choose to live in Sheffield for three years.

Open really late, always cooking and always busy; fantastic service.

Witham Road / Fulwood Road - the main drag up through Broomhill on the way out to the Peak District (above the hospitals and the university - just beyond Threshers).
