Smart, stylish hotel in the new Leopold Square development. Nice rooms, good breakfast (buffet or a-la-carte options), close to a selection of nice restaurants. Service was friendly, verging on the over-fussy side (e.g. personal items 'tidied' within the room, but to be fair, when I left a note expressing a preference that my things be left as I had arranged them, this subsequently stopped).

Greenest City in the UK (maybe the world!),one third in the Peak District, Sheffield has a stunning array of parks allowing the countryside to reach deep into the urban area. Many are the historic legacy of its industrial fathers and benefactors, some lovingly restored by the City and many friends groups. Amongst the historic best are Abbeyfield, Norfolk Heritage Park, Weston Park, and with its restored Paxton pavillions the beautiful and intimate Botannical Gardens. More esoteric, theres the General Cemetary, and for the C21st Devonshire Green and the forthcoming Sheaf Valley Park between Park Hill and Station.

Friendly new tapas bar - loads of great dishes, excellent veggie selection (and the omnivores liked it too), good beers/wines, menu changes frequently. Bar downstairs.

We stayed in a lovely farm cottage at Totley Bents for the week. The cottage was situated on the edge of the Peak District on a working farm. We went walking in Hathersage and Castleton, had some brilliant drives along lovely purple/brown moors, and went into Sheffield for some retail therapy.
The decor and facilities were excellent (fresh flowers in the living room), and we had lovely views from the windows. We also had some brilliant local walks with spectacular scenery, and there was a lovely local pub just a stone's throw away for the much needed pint after roaming the countryside.
The owners (Ian and Ann) were really helpful and welcoming. All in all, this was an excellent relaxing place to stay and I can't wait to go again in the winter months to try out the log-burning fire-stove.
